NOVANT HEALTH WILMINGTON MARATHON

EXPECT TRAFFIC DELAYS 6:00 - 8:00 AM
The Novant Health Wilmington Marathon event is scheduled for Saturday, February 28, 2026. The race includes a 13.1 mile (half marathon) and a 26.2 mile (full marathon) run event with approximately 3,500 participants. Normal traffic flow on Wrightsville Beach will be disrupted between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. to accommodate the athletes. The following areas on Wrightsville Beach will be affected:
- 6:00 a.m.: Lumina and Waynick intersection will be closed (busses shuttling in athletes) except for those exiting the beach.
- 6:15 a.m.: Causeway Drive will be closed except for busses; vehicle traffic will be directed to Salisbury Street (some exceptions - Waynick exiting the beach).
- 6:20 a.m.: N. Lumina Avenue between Salisbury Street and the Causeway Drive, athletes will line up on Lumina for start on Fayetteville Street. Traffic, including pedestrian drop off on Salisbury Street, will be stopped at Old Scotchman to turn around.
- 7:20 am: N. Lumina open to north bound traffic.
- 7:30 am: N. Lumina open to all vehicle traffic.
- 7:35 am: Causeway Drive open to vehicle traffic except for outside eastbound lane.
- 7:50 am: Athletes have cleared the drawbridge to complete race on west side.
- 8:00 am: Normal traffic flow on WB resumes.
BUSINESSES in these areas should notify their delivery services.
The Wrightsville Beach Police Department will have officers directing traffic where needed.
