About Parks & Recreation

Wrightsville Beach Parks and Recreation is continually seeking opportunities to enhance the park settings and to maximize recreational opportunities. We strive to provide services and leisure opportunities that will contribute significantly toward the physical, social and emotional well being of the community.

To register for activities, reserve a facility or sand wheelchair, or to apply for a special event permit, visit our online catalog. The following programs are offered at various times throughout the year by the Wrightsville Beach Parks & Recreation department:

Parking at the Wrightsville Beach Municipal Complex
March 1st - October 31st

Paid parking is enforced from March 1st through October 31st, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily at the rate of $5.00 per hour.  However, the first two hours of parking are free in the Municipal Complex which includes Wrightsville Beach Park, the Park Office/Recreation Center parking lot, Town Hall, the Wrightsville Beach Museum, and the Visitor Center.  You must register your tag/plate number into the system upon arrival to take advantage of the two free hours. This can be done in one of two ways: 

  1. At a Pay-By-Plate kiosk (locations shown on map below)
  2. Text2Park - text your parking location code (listed below) to 25023 then follow the link. 
    • WBPark - Wrightsville Beach Park and the Park Office/Recreation Center
    • WBTown - Wrightsville Beach Town Hall
    • WBLoop - Wrightsville Beach Museum/Visitor Center

The two free hours are applied automatically at checkout. If you select more than two hours, you will not be charged for the first two hours. Wrightsville Beach Residents may display their residential hang tag in lieu of Pay-By-Plate or Text2Park.

Special Event Permit Information and Application

Planning an event on Wrightsville Beach? Planned outdoor group activities, such as weddings, sporting events, meetings, organized entertainment or celebrations on Wrightsville Beach public property require a Special Event Permit.

The John T. Nesbitt Loop

The John T. Nesbitt Loop, better known as "The Loop", is a 2.45 mile loop around the heart of Wrightsville Beach.  It is shown as a red dotted line on the map. This sidewalk trail offers scenic views, restrooms located in Wrightsville Beach Park, water fountains, pet water fountains, and pet waste disposal bags.  Come enjoy the outdoors with a walk or run along the ever popular Loop! 

Harbor Island Garden Club

The award-winning Harbor Island Garden Club is actively involved in community beautification and environmental improvements throughout Wrightsville Beach. Visit the Club's website to learn how you too can become involved and help support their efforts. 

North Carolina Holiday Flotilla

The North Carolina Holiday Flotilla is scheduled each year on the Saturday following Thanksgiving.  We're looking forward to an exciting Thanksgiving weekend of activities including the Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, Flotilla Day in the Park on Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, followed by the Flotilla Boat Parade and Fireworks that kicks off at 6:00 pm.  It's always a grand holiday weekend!
